The New York Mets 2012 Game Recap: Mets Defeat Braves 1-0

Greetings one and all. The season is finally upon us and the 2012 New York Mets began their campaign with a gutsy 1-0 win over the Atlanta Braves on Thursday April 5th at Citi Field!

Here are the good things that happened;

Johan Santana pitched five scoreless innings striking out five while only giving up two hits and walking two Braves batters. At one point he retired 11 straight Braves hitters.

Ramon Ramirez,Tim Byrdak  Jon Rauch and Francisco Rodriguez pitched scoreless innings as well.

Daniel Murphy picked up where he left off prior to blowing out his knee late last season by going 2-4 on the day.

David Wright got the game winning RBI with a single in the sixth inning scoring  Andres Torres.

Scott Hairston went 1-1 on the day.

The Mets didn’t commit any errors and that is a good thing.

Here are the not so good things;

Andres Torres was picked off base once and later left the game in the seventh inning with the same calf injury that hampered him during the spring. He’s headed to the disabled list.

Jason Bay left two runners on base and went hitless. He did draw a walk though.

Lucas Duda stranded five runners on base and 3 of those were men in scoring position. He also struck out twice and went hitless.

Ike Davis went hitless on the day leaving six men on base and striking out twice.

All in all it was a great day for the Mets. Johan looked liked Johan and the bullpen did their job. Daniel Murphy is still alive. I’m not worried a bit about Davis or Duda because they will hit.

The New York Mets are 1-0 and all is well!

Please keep it clean!
