The New York Mets 2012 Game Recap: Mets 2 Phillies 8

I know that I’ve said I won’t watch Mike Pelfrey pitch but last night I made an exception. Living in Greece affords me very little opportunity to watch the Mets live so I decided to watch anyway. At least I watched the first seven innings and I’m glad I shut down the pc and wasn’t forced to watch the onslaught or listen to the Phillies announcers any longer.

The Mets lost to the Phillies by a score of 8-2.

I guess we’ll have to put the broom back in the closet and wait until next time to use it 🙂

It wasn’t very pretty to watch but Pelfrey pitched quite well. After a shaky first inning he settled down and did what the Mets and we fans have asked him to do; which is keep us in ballgames and that is what he did.

Ramon Ramirez’ wild pitch and two too many walks from Manny Acosta is what did the Mets in last night my friends. I’m certainly not pissed off at the bullpen…they’ve been great so far this year and I certainly can’t expect them to pitch scoreless ball each and every time they step on the hill.

Ike Davis seems to have come out of his coma and collected two hits on the day…including a first inning two run jack that was really nice to see and left the Phillies announcers that I was forced to endure speechless. The fact that these hits came at the expense of the southpaw Cole Hammels should give Davis some added confidence.

David Wright continued his hot hitting adding two more hits to his 2012 tally…it’s two bad he got picked off base twice by Hammels, who BTW has an extremely good move to first.

Lucas Duda also collected two hits on the day….good for him!

Daniel Murphy is still alive….always a good thing 🙂

Jason Bay is out with a jammed right ring finger….or so the Mets say. Let’s see; Wright plays and hits well with a broken pinkie and Bay sits with a jammed right ring finger. Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise 🙂

Speaking of disguises Mark Berman, author of Brilliant Disguise will be joining me on Wednesday Night’s Phil Naessens Show to talk all things Mets baseball.

While the Mets lost Sunday’s battle they did win the war by taking two of three from the Phillies in Philly. It doesn’t get much better than that my friends!

The Mets travel to Atlanta Moday to begin a three game set with the Braves.

The New York Mets 2012 Game Recap: Mets beat Phillies 5-2

I went to sleep last night with the Mets in the lead and I woke up to discover the Metropolitan’s held on to beat the Sillies by a score of 5-2 behind the outstanding pitching of R.A. Dickey and a first inning two run bomb by Jason Bay on a crisp cool night at Citizens Bank Park.

Yes, you read that correctly. Jason Bay hit a monster shot off Cliff Lee for his first home run of the season. He also struck out twice. Enough said there.

R.A. Dickey won his second game in as many starts last night and I’m happy for him. Even if he were to leave NY and pitch for another team I would always root for him. He pitched really well last night and in 14 straight starts where he’s lasted at least 6 innings and given up less then three earned runs.

Ruben Tejada continued to hold his own batting lead-off. He’s my favorite Met this year.

Scott Hairston went yard with a bomb of his own to seal the deal.

Daniel Murphy booted another ball last night. Fortunately for him he can rake because that’s the only reason the Irish Hammer is playing second base.

David Wright was held out of the lineup again last night and I wonder what the deal is? If he can’t swing a bat then he needs to go to the Disabled List. Hopefully we’ll know more today regarding his status.

All in all it was a good night to be a Met fan.

Later today Jonathon Niese takes the hill and hopefully he throws as well as he did against the Braves last Sunday!
