The New York Mets 2012 Game Recap: Mets 6 Rockies 5

The Mets won a wild and woolly one yesterday against the Rockies six to five in eleven innings….Ike Davis got the game winnning RBI in the top of the eleventh and Ramon Ramirez collected his first save of the season.

Johan Santana pitched another no decision gem yesterday and left after six innings with a four run lead….it should’ve been enough for him to have collected his first win since 2010. Sadly it wasn’t. The usually dependable Tim Byrdak served up a biscuit and Todd Helten crushed it for a grand slam…..

Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Ruben Tejada each had three hits for the Mets….these two are really getting it done so far this year!

Josh Thole went yard for his first home run of 2012….

David Wright collected two more RBI’s……please sign him to a long term deal?????

It was a good series for the Mets….anytime you can win a series against the Rockies in Denver is a good thing and on Wednesday night my pal Rocky fan Reuben Mills will join me to flesh out this series….you won’t want to miss this show!

On to Houston….

The New York Mets 2012 Game Recap: Mets 7 Rockies 5

Yesterday was Mets starting pitcher Dillon Gee’s birthday and he celebrated it in fine style by picking up his second win of the season against the Rockies….Gee struck out seven and only walked two Rockies hitters.

Late last night I decided to put Lucas Duda in the lineup on my fantasy baseball team and he responded with a tater and four RBI’s on the night….I wish the rest of my team would have done the same 🙂

Three more hits for Ruben Tejada…..he’s really getting it done so far this season.

Mike Baxter had another pinch hit….it’s a tough job but he seems to do this quite well.

David Wright and Daniel Murphy each added three hits of their own….our two through five hitters are doing fine….if Ike Davis ever gets going we’ll have our own version of murderer’s row 🙂

Johan Santana takes the hill tonight and hopefully I’ll be able to watch at least some of it!

The New York Mets 2012 Game Recap: Mets 3 Marlins 2

The Mets swept the Marlins yesterdayat Citi Field by a score of three to two. After thirteen pitches pinch hitter Justin Turner walked with the bases loaded to end the dramatic come from behind victory.

These are the type of wins that make believers out of people.

Break out the dustpan the Marlins just got swept 🙂

Once again Jonathon Niese pitched extremely well and the bullpen came in and held off the fishes long enough for the ninth inning heroics to occur.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis is quickly making a name for himself both at the plate and in centerfield as well.  I like what I’m seeing so far from him.

Sad news yesterday. Mike Pelfrey will be having Tommy John surgery and will be out for at least a year. I’m not his biggest fan but I didn’t want him to end his career with the Mets this way….I wish him all the best.

Up next are the Rockies!

The New York Mets 2012 Game Recap: Mets 2 Marlins 1

It’s been a couple of days since I’ve been able to post something, life sometimes does get in the way you know. I did do the Mets weekly report yesterday if that counts for anything. If you haven’t listened to it as of yet you can access it here.

Jose Reyes returned to Citi Field a midst cheers and boos and took a collar on the night going 0-4….it’s too bad he got booed. He did what he needed to do and what EVERY single person in the stands would do….he took the money. So what.

Johan Santana threw another beautiful game last night and once again gets a no decision. Three hits, one run, eleven strike outs and only two walks. I’d say the “old” Santana is back and that’s a good thing for both the Mets and for him.

Josh Thole is on fire at the plate folks….I wish he’d get better behind the dish but if he continues to rake like he has it will be much easier to watch the defensive adventures of Josh Thole this season.

Lucas Duda got the game winning RBI…he’s going to be okay I think.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis made another outstanding grab last night and seems very comfortable batting leadoff….we’ll see what happens when Torres comes back.

Jordany Valdespin saw his first big league action last night at second base…I like this kid.

Good win especially after black Monday with the Giants….hopefully the Amazins will win another one tonight when R. A. Dickey takes the hill.

The New York Mets 2012 Game Recap: Mets 5 Giants 4

I watched most of the game and lucky me I got to witness the ninth inning meltdown by closer Frank Francisco and unlucky for me the stream went dead and I missed being able to watch the Mets win the game in the bottom of the ninth.

I wish I would’ve missed the top of the ninth as well 🙂

What I did see was Mike Pelfrey pitch his heart out last night. He went eight innings allowing only one run on six hits. Pelfrey fanned three and walked only one and I must say I’ve been impressed with “Big Pelf” thus far this season. Not impressed enough to wish he remained on the team mind you, but impressed enough that maybe, just maybe, one day I will want him to be on the team.

I also saw Ruben Tejada drive in the first three runs of the game and with each and every game that kid is showing that he not only belongs in the show but that he might just become a star in this game.

Let’s get back to that ninth inning. I couldn’t believe that Terry Collins didn’t allow Pelfrey to finish the game….Pelfrey was on a roll so why not let him try and finish it? I get the fact Collins needs to get his closer some work but Pelfrey was really pitching well and a complete game victory could have meant far more in the long run.

Then the boos came…

The Mets fans were livid after that blown save by Francisco….and rightly so….I was really pissed off myself and in a way was glad the stream shut down….and my anger turned to relief after I saw that the Mets came back and won this game the way they did.

They shouldn’t of had to but that’s baseball I guess….

David Wright had his consecutive games hitting streak snapped…..to his credit Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong pitched incredibly well yesterday.

Later today the Mets take on the Giants in game three of their four game series.

The New York Mets 2012 Game Recap: Mets 3 Giants 4

The more things change the more they remain the same. At least that’s what my mother use to say or at least that’s how I remember it anyway….and she might as well be talking about the New York Mets because they had a chance to win this game.

Sounds a lot like last year doesn’t it? Maybe a better saying then my mother’s would be “It’s deja vu all over again”?

Errors and walks will kill a team every time and two walks from closer Frank Francisco and an untimely error by Kirk Nieuwenhuis did the Mets in last night.

When I say the bullpen didn’t do their job I certainly wasn’t referring to Ramirez, Rauch or Byrdak….those three fellas kept the Mets in the game which is in their job description and exactly what they are paid to do.

Speaking of Nieuwenhuis; he made an awesome catch in the eighth inning. You can see it here.

Jason Bay continued his hot hitting with two hits including a dinger. I sure do hope he continues this pace he’s on.

David Wright continued his hitting streak going one for three on the night.

Josh Thole also continued to impress at the plate with a hit and a RBI…now if he could only solve his behind the plate woes we just might have something here.

It was a tough loss for sure and hopefully the “Amazin’s” will get back on track Saturday as Mike Pelfrey takes the hill against Ryan Vogelsong.

The New York Mets 2012 Game Recap: Mets 3 Braves 9

I suppose it had to of happened sooner or later. The Braves finally found a way to beat the Mets and they did so by a score of nine to three.

Starting pitcher Johan Santana lasted only one and a third innings allowing four earned runs on four hits while walking one and striking out none. Our Ace simply didn’t have it last night. Errors by Jason Bay and Ike Davis weren’t very helpful either.

Oh well. Games like this happen to even the best teams and it’s too early to come completely unglued over one loss to a good team like Atlanta. And despite what people are saying Atlanta is a good team.

David Wright added to more hits last night….the guy is hot as a pistol.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis also added two hits of his own….could he be the answer to our center field woes?

Daniel Murphy also collected two hits….and he’s still alive.

Bad days happen…..good teams bounce back from them and don’t let these things bother them too much. Hopefully the good Mets team will turn up tonight as R. A. Dickey takes the hill.

The New York Mets 2012 Game Recap: Mets 6 Braves 1

One of the best ways to get over a beating is to deliver one of your own….at least in sports that is. The Mets got back on track last night with a win over the Atlanta Braves by a score of 6-1.

Dillon Gee picked up the first win of his 2012 campaign and Ike Davis hit a three run shot to seal the deal. Jason Bay also added a dinger of his own as well as making a home run saving catch.

The bullpen came in and pitched two innings of shutout ball to preserve the win for Gee.

David Wright added another hit last night and has now hit safely in each of his seven games this season. He’s on some kind of tear. I hope he’s able to keep this up.

Ruben Tejada also added a hit and an RBI of his own and the more I see of this kid the more I like. He’s going to be some kind of special player.

I still can’t believe the Braves intentionally walked David Wright to face Ike Davis and boy did Ike make Manager Fredi Gonzalez regret that decision.

Gee pitched terrific last night giving up one run on four hits while striking out five Braves hitters. He also gave up one walk on the night. From what I’ve been able to read Gee had good command of his pitches all night long. That’s good to see and I hope for him that he continues to demonstrate that last year was no fluke.

The Mets need a catcher because Thole and Nikeas aren’t the answer. Neither of them can hit and neither of them play very good defense.

All in all I’m one very happy Mets fan…the Metropolitans are off to a flying start and I’m liking what I’m seeing so far!

I’ll leave you with a video of the grab Jason Bay made last night….

The New York Mets 2012 Game Recap: Mets Defeat Nationals 4-3

Greetings one and all! Baseball sure is a funny game. Who would have thought the New York Mets would be undefeated after their first four games? Not me and probably not you either. But the 2012 New York Mets are;

UNDEFEATED!

Here are the good things that happened

Mike Pelfrey went 5.2 innings giving up ten hits and three runs while striking out eight Washington Nationals and only walking one. I’ll take that type of performance any day of the week and twice on Sunday!

The revamped Mets bullpen pitched scoreless ball once again.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit his first Major League homer run.

Daniel Murphy collected two more hits including the game winning RBI in the bottom of the ninth. This guy can rake!

David Wright had another RBI. That’s four RBI’s in four games!

The Mets turned two double plays and Jason Bay added an assist.

Daniel Murphy is still alive!

Here are the not so good things that happened

Ike Davis is still hit-less for 2012.

I know it’s still early but tonight was a big win for the Mets. Last year this team might have folded or the bullpen would have put the Mets in a hole that would terrify a coal miner….this year these things don’t seem to be the case. At least not yet anyway.

Undefeated is such a nice word!

The New York Mets 2012 Game Recap: Mets Defeat Braves 7-5

Due to some shaky internet I missed last nights game as well and let me tell ya I missed a doozy. Jonathan Niese took a no-hitter into the seventh, the bullpen held on for dear life and the Mets swept the 3 game series with the Braves on a much warmer day than yesterday at Citi Field.

Bust out the dustpan….the Braves just got swept 🙂

Here are the good things that happened

The Mets swept the Braves and gave their fans reasons to cheer. That’s always a good thing.

Jonathan Niese flirted with a no-hitter until the seventh inning when the wheels fell off and he couldn’t find the plate.

Shortstop Ruben Tejada went four for five and had two RBI’s….Jose who 🙂

Daniel Murphy collected two more hits….that boy can rake!

David Wright had another hit and another RBI….he’s on a roll!

Jason Bay collected a hit and an RBI.

The bullpen did their jobs once again and Frank Francisco got his third save of the season.

Daniel Murphy is still alive.

Here are the not so good things that happened

Lucas Duda dropped a fly ball in the seventh inning…tough sun but an error is an error and never a good thing.

Ike Davis is still hit-less on the season.

The Mets are 3-0 and I’m excited. This team is going to score runs and if they get the pitching like they did this weekend…well, look out.
